Naturopathic Medicine
Naturopathic medicine is modern medicine at it’s finest. A naturopathic doctor combines the diagnostic skills of a primary care medical doctor with a philosophy and treatment based on the healing power of nature. Our medicine encompasses many different treatment modalities, which allows the physician to draw from many tools in order to treat the person rather than the disease.
Modalities Used In Naturopathic Medicine
Herbal medicine: Plant medicines have existed for centuries in many cultures. A number of modern drugs are based on healing plant properties.
Homeopathy: A 200–year-old system of medicine based on the idea that like cures like. It is well designed to treat a person on the physical, mental and emotional levels.
Nutrition: includes using food as medicine and as prevention of disease. In addition, specific nutritional supplements can be used therapeutically.
Physical medicine: hands-on treatments such as therapeutic massage, ultrasound, hydrotherapy, osseous manipulations, therapeutic exercise and stretching.
Counseling: Family and individual counseling is very important for the mental/emotional levels of healing.
Pharmacology: When needed, pharmaceutical intervention may be used for the best interest of the patient. Naturopathic doctors currently have full prescriptive rights in Washington State, with the exception of narcotics.
